This was one of those outfits I just knew I wanted to wear again. I wore this out on NYE and honestly I threw it kind of together last minute. I mean I had the idea in my head and everything was hanging up, but when a last minute outfit comes together when you’re running late AND it looks great? It’s a feeling I can’t describe. This is what I assume a runner’s high feels like, if I’m being honest.
After wearing it that night, I felt so good in it I thought ‘I gotta wear this again’ and so here I am, wearing it again. And this time I brought my photographer along with me š We haven’t had a super cold winter yet and so getting to wear tights actually thrills me. They used to be such a staple (does anyone remember the color tights of yore? Looking at you 2008-2010) but now I wear them occasionally, as typically my everyday nor does the weather call for them much. This rarity makes them just feel special when I get to wear them. Funny enough this look without the tights is a no for me…but with tights?! 10/10. So even though my tights Ā are the last aspect you’d call out about this outfit, they are in fact the cornerstone.
I’ve worn this Quince turtleneck a lot lately and it’s the perfect weight. It’s not too hot, but warm enough and most importantly it’s not itchy at all. This is key for me. I sized up to a large and like this fit, as I don’t want it to be too tight or too short anywhere. I would say it runs true to size, but more fitted for us in-between sizes. So if you prefer a relaxed look, like me, then go up one size than your typical. Find it here.
My skort is Gap (yes it’s a skort!) and actually sold out now but I’ve linked this one from Aritizia I really like as well. But let’s be honest, any black mini skirt works for this look. If you’ve got a black mini skirt, then you’ve got a black mini skirt. I don’t think there is anything special to this simple silhouette. I’ve had ones before from Old Navy, & Other Stories, Nordstrom, etc and to me they’re all about the same. As long as it fits and you like it, it doesn’t matter where it came from. I prefer a poly blend skirt with structure, because I find the color doesn’t fade versus a cotton or cotton blend. But that’s just me! That’s what’s really nice using classic pieces to create simple but effective outfits. This look is very re-creatable with simple classic pieces and I think that’s why I like it so much. It felt new to me but really I think it just classic and refined.
And then I tossed a faux fur jacket on just because I could. I’m lowkey obsessed with this jacket right now so any time there’s a slight chill in the air I reach for it. It’s on sale right now too! I have the medium, but could have sized up to a large for some extra wiggle room. Find it here.Ā
