Believe it or not, I have been on a mission to simplify my wardrobe for a few years now (hence my pre-loved shop…) and that means finding pieces that work on their own without me having to think too hard about it. I am trying to build an easy wardrobe, but as it turns out it’s kinda hard to find those just right pieces. During the Madewell sale of yore (last week) I bought this linen shirtdress and honestly, it might be the best $138 I’ve spent this year.
The moment I tried this dress on I knew this was going to be a regular rotation piece. This dress fits really well on an hourglass figure OR an apple that wants to be mistaken for an hourglass figure. The button-front shirtdress silhouette is a classic for a reason: it nips in through the bodice, then flows out into a relaxed A-line shape. I went with the large, as I’m in between a medium and large right now and it was spot on. I would say it runs slightly generous overall so it’s not tight at all but still very flattering. The linen keeps its silhouette too, it’s a thicker linen but not hot.
I personally love finding one linen dress that works all spring / summer long. (My last spring’s version is here!) Bottom line: if you’re looking for one spring dress to carry you through the season without overthinking it, this is genuinely it. The fit is flattering and easy, the quality is there, and olive goes with basically everything you already own. Highly, enthusiastically recommend.
