On today’s Fall It List post, it is the Barn Jacket. You know, I saw this trend coming around last fall and was very intrigued by it. However, I just never really bought into last year. Fast forward to this fall and I can’t go into a store without some sort of barn jacket staring at me. (Neighing at me?) So do I actually love this trend or is it just everywhere? YES. Exactly. Now I was lucky enough to get my hands on this one from J.Crew. It’s the most J.Crew version of a barn jacket possible. Plaid, waxed canvas, corduroy lapels — this jacket has it all. As someone who didn’t grow up on a farm, I’m not sure I would wear this out to the barn. It feels way too nice. But I WOULD wear it all fall long around my very urban city. And that makes sense to me.
I’ve got a whole round up of jacket below, but before I move on too quickly I must tell you my jeans are on sale for under $100! I am in the 29 and they fit true to size. This pair is VERY different from last years model which ran quite generously. J.Crew said NO MORE to the generous fit of the denim trousers in 2025, just FYI. I would probably be more comfortable in a 30 but what’s a girl gonna do? Return them? Ya right.

I know that there are rumors of the Anorak coming back (via Madewell, who also started these rumors) but I do think this is the jacket of the fall. What I like about this one is that it’s heavy weight and very structured. It actually feels like a jacket, instead of just another layer. This is a high quality piece, if you’re looking for actual outerwear. If you are looking for the trend only, I’ve got other options below!

As far as styling goes, this jacket works as outerwear but speaks to the outfit as a whole. I find this look to be preppy, traditional so I like to keep the rest of the look in a similar vibe. Think denim, trousers, a mini skirt. The stylings of Tuckernuck, Ralph Lauren, J.Crew, etc. It’s quite easy to toss on and over with even a simple tee or sweater, because the jacket can do the talking. If you are wondering which look would be the best for you, I would say if you lean towards neutrals go with an army green or a khaki color. If you like some pizazz, go with a plaid and if you are more casual 99% of the time try the denim! I hope this helps 🙂
